Fishing
Do you want sea fishing or freswather fishing in Hamarøy?

Everyone is free to fish the sea for their own use. There is plenty of cod and saithe, and many other fish species. If you're lucky, you might hook a wolffish, redfish or large salmon. Beware of the quickly changing weather on the Vestfjord, an open stretch of sea where waters can suddenly become very rough. Pay attention to weather forecasts and the advice of locals.
For your own safety, always wear a life vest when in a boat, as required by Norwegian Law.
The shielded fjords offer tranquil waters. Angling from the shore is excellent many places, especially where the water is deep. In fact, you have to be very unlucky, indeed, to return empty-handed after a few hours fishing!
Freshwater fishing
If you prefer fishing the rivers and lakes, there are plenty of opportunities. Your catch might include salmon, trout, char or eel. The locals can advise you about good spots to cast your hook. Boats are available for hire a number of places throughout Hamarøy.
You need a special permit to fish rivers where trout and salmon migrate to and from the sea. In lakes and rivers without so-called anadromous fish species, fishing is allowed year round. Fishing permits are sold for most lakes and rivers.
