Hillwalking
Hamarøy is blessed with magnificently beautiful, varied and fertile scenery, offering excellent hillwalking for young and old. During the summer there are many organized walks, led by experienced local guides.
Detailed tour maps are available if you wish to explore the wilderness on your own.
In the valley of Sagvassdalen, there are seven lakes linked by a river, along which you will find a number of interesting cultural monuments. In fact, in the Cultural Monuments Year 1997, this watercourse won a national prize.
Many of the best walking areas in Hamarøy are easily accessible, such as the outer areas of southern Hamarøy. Less than an hour's walking from the road, you can visit ancient settlements at Sørdal, Nordland and Straumen.
